Cute, but this is kind of the point of insurance. . .what about flood or earthquake insurance? For most people, annual floods or earthquakes? none. But in case of a freak accident, your ass is covered.

Not true, actually. If medical insurance were like flood or earthquake insurance, you wouldn’t use it at all unless you were in a catastrophic accident (or there was an act of God). Medical insurance is unique in that it is also supposed to help defray the myriad small costs associated with “everyday” health care like regular checkups and prescriptions.
So yeah, the fact that I have to pay for almost all of my “everyday” health care costs out of pocket does defeat the purpose.
