Internet rock stars

So I spent Monday and Tuesday this week attending An Event Apart, a conference “for people who make web sites.” On the whole, I quite enjoyed the experience, but that’s not what I’m going to talk about today.

These conferences have as speakers the rock stars of the internet; pioneers and luminaries, all. So you can forgive us attendees for being a bit, well, star-struck if we get the opportunity to interact with them personally. Imagine my deer-in-headlights reaction to hanging out with Jeremy Keith at breakfast, and Dan Cederholm at lunch. I gave Jeremy Keith advice on good San Francisco sushi restaurants! I am such a nerd.

I have to say, though, that I found it amusing that they’re all on these ridiculous social networks, most of which I’d never heard of—Pownce? Dopplr?—God save us from gimmicky spellings. How do they get any actual work done?
