International Talk Like a Pirate Day today! Arrr!
signal-to-noise ratio at Eater SF—I mean, who really cares about the latest Starbucks news or a recap of the newest Top Chef episode? I sure don’t.—I am loving this series they run wherein the author finds and makes fun of idiotic Yelpers—which, by the way, is the popular service’s problem in a nutshell. It’s somehow evolved into an online singles’ bar, where people compete to write the snarkiest, most elitist entry in an attempt to impress others, but who end up doing nothing but impressing others with their idiocy.
The once and future banana. Ha!
One interesting note—when your great-grandparents go on about how bananas used to taste so much better in the old days, they’re not lying.
Who knew?
“This is so profoundly stupid it’s hard to believe it isn’t from The Onion.” – John Gruber
Usually I think of Twitter kind of like this, but this parasite-app is pretty interesting. Heh. (Via Gruber)
So you may have seen me mention before how, every day since I wrote this post about a workaround for the IE7 z-index bug, it has accounted for anywhere between 25 and 50% of my traffic.
Which is cool, don’t get me wrong. But when I was checking out my site statistics this morning, I realized that one of my more recent visitors, going to that post, was coming from the microsoft.com domain, meaning that s/he is a Microsoft employee.
Oh, the irony is simply delicious.
March 10 is the first-ever International Day of Awesomeness (tagline: “No one’s perfect, but everyone can be awesome.”). Make sure to celebrate it by performing feats of awesomeness. Or if you aren’t ultimate enough for that, write a blog post on others who are.
As for me, I am not sure yet what I will do to celebrate, but I am fairly certain that it will involve a cape. And possibly a heroic pose.
being played in Detroit today. Wide receivers are dropping passes (like they’ve been doing all season), the running backs are just not getting it done (also like they’ve been, er, not doing all season), Griese is an at-best lackluster replacement for the dangerously self-destructive Rex Grossman, and there are penalties all over the place. About the only positive thing you can say is that the D looks solid, if not spectacular. Which is actually something of a miracle, as the secondary is simply decimated by injury.
That said, as ugly as this game is shaping up to be, the Bears are holding on to their 4-point lead by their fingernails.
In other news, how about that Tony Romo? God, he’s good. Now pay attention, boys and girls: the Cowboys are my early-season NFC champion favorites.
Also, speaking of the Cowboys, I have to say I love that Pepsi Max commercial with the yawning offensive coordinator. Ha!
